Paractical Information

ELO gives you a choice of two uniquely different locations in Canada and four in the U.K. while offering the same great ‘tried and proven’ academic programme at each.

Canada

The first location is beautiful Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Nestled in the middle of the prairie provinces, Saskatoon is a small city with friendly people, fresh air and wide-open spaces. The city has a very small Asian population and therefore no Chinese radio or television. Home to our very first Canadian Summer English Immersion Programme, Saskatoon continues to be our ‘maximum’ immersion location. Most of our host families in Saskatoon have been with us for many years. We hold our classes at the University of Saskatchewan.

Our second location is Vancouver, British Columbia. The natural beauty of the Rocky Mountains and mild climate have made Vancouver a popular immigration destination for many diverse ethnic groups. Vancouver is the largest city in Western Canada but with ample green space throughout, you really feel close to nature. We hold our classes in Church in the Valley (Langley) and Living Waters Church (Aldergrove), two districts that have relatively low Chinese populations.

U.K.

Our first UK location is the historic English cathedral city of Canterbury, made famous by Chaucers’ Canterbury Tales. This university city boast some of England’s finest medieval architecture. We hold our classes in St. Edmond’s College and other venues alike. Dover castle is close by as is Calais, France.

Our second UK location is the famous university city of Oxford referred to by the writer Matthew Arnold as the “City of Dreaming Spires” due to the architecture of the university buildings.Oxford is simply amazing and steeped in tradition and rich history. We hold classes in Cheney School and other venues alike.

Our third UK location is the beautiful seaside resort city of Brighton. A favourite vacation retreat for Londoners, many famous artists, actors and musicians have called Brighton home including Sir Paul McCartney and Cate Blanchlett. The countryside surrounding Brighton is stunning with the Seven Sisters White Cliffs. We hold classes in greater Brighton Metro College.

Our fourth location is historic Bath, founded in the 1st century A.D. and famous for the Roman Bath founded by the Romans as a thermal spa. Bath is close to the world historic site Stonehenge and Salisbury Cathedral, home of the original copy of the Magna Carta. The entire city has been designated a World Heritage Site. We will be holding classes in a local secondary school.

Programmes Info

Many great locations...the same great academic curriculum!

ELO uses a specifically designed curriculum that addresses the language needs of Asian students, particularly from Hong Kong and Mainland China. We are also aware of the required skills that are necessary for public examinations like the TSA, SBA and HKDSE and have developed our curriculum with this in mind.

ELO employs only fully qualified Canadian and U.K. teachers. Students attend classes for approximately 3.5-4.5 hours per day or about 35-45 hours for the programme. Teachers focus on the four main English skill areas of: speaking, writing, reading and phonics. Classes typically go from 9:00 am until 2:30 pm including lunch break.

Afternoons, some evenings and weekends are spent visiting various cultural/leisure venues for fun activities.

Accommodations

In all of our camp locations, students will stay with carefully selected Canadian or British host families. All host families have had the required police background checks necessary to apply to be one of our families.

Special Accommodations

Upon request from a school, students can be housed in the Student Dormitories in most of our locations rather than with host families.

Student Programme Levels

Pre-trip assessment will ensure students are placed in 'like-ability' classes.

Prior to leaving for Canada or the U.K., students must attend two orientation seminars. The purpose of the first seminar is to assess the students to determine their operation level in the four skills of speaking, writing, reading and listening. A student profile will be developed from the results and that will be shared with the teachers in Canada or England. As the class sizes in our programme are small (approx. 15-1 pupil-teacher ratio), teachers are able to differentiate the lessons to meet the individual student needs. All students in the class will be of similar ability.

The second orientation will be to help students understand the cultural differences and life in a Canadian or British host family.
There will also be one Parent Information Night hosted by ELO to share everything about the programme and answer any questions parents may have.

Cost, Registration & Payment

Our fee structure and how to register and pay for enrolment.

The fee that we charge is an all-inclusive fee. This means that the return airfare, all in-Canada or UK transportation, accommodations, meals, education programme, all venue entry fees, travel insurance and Canadian eTA (electronic Travel Authorisation) are paid in the one fee. If a student did not wish to buy souvenirs, they would not have to spend any extra money! The programme fee varies dependent upon which programme you choose...Canada or the U.K.
